Simple living and baby wearing are two things that go hand in hand for me. There are so many reasons why it’s been awesome for my family and I, and I wanted to share with you today my top 10 reasons why baby wearing makes life awesome!
1. Baby wearing means lots of snuggle time
This one is my favorite, so it gets the number one spot! There is nothing sweeter than having a tiny baby blissfully cuddled up against you. Hmmm… Except maybe a sleeping toddler cuddled up against the back of your neck. I know mine isn’t big on cuddles, and when she falls asleep in the baby carrier, it’s selfies with the sleepy girl all over the place! After all, aren’t selfies are the epitome of simple living? Teehee! Hey, this girl’s allowed to have a few modern guilty pleasures!
2. Baby wearing means a lot of sleepy time!
Babies are supposed to sleep a lot, am I right? I know, there are a lot of you shaking your heads and fists at me out there. Some babies just didn’t get the memo. But put them into a baby carrier and bounce around a little bit, and you might just have a sleepy baby on your hands, uhm, or your chest rather. (Please do not hold me responsible if your baby does not sleep in the carrier, but odds are he will.)
3. Baby wearing means more hands-free time
When you have a tiny newborn, you have them in your arms all the time. And that’s ok, because you were so looking
forward to this part. And they are so cute and cuddly. And they soooo love being held. But dammit you need to pee. And get a drink of water. And some food. Oh, food (preferably warm) would be sooo nice, wouldn’t it. All of this can be yours if you learn to use a baby carrier. Snuggle your baby and pee at the same time. Yup, I said it, I’ve done it, and it’s FABULOUS! And it’s not just with the newborns either. Sometimes (but not all the time), what bigger babies and toddlers want is just to be cuddled (blame the teeth, the cold or the fact that you are just such an awesome-can’t-be-without-you-more-than-3-seconds kind of parent) and it gets harder and harder to do as they get bigger and if life is more chaotic. Pop them in a baby carrier, and you can give them their cuddle fix (and maybe yours too) while you putter around in the kitchen. Or the mall. We all need to get out sometimes!
4. Baby wearing takes up less space
There’s no denying that a babycarrier takes up a lot less space in your home. Unless you become addicted and have a huge stash. Ah… that’s a subject for another post! That was one big draw when we had our first daughter and really started to embrace simple living. We were in a small apartment and wanted to avoid having a big stroller hanging out in our living room.
5. Baby wearing means easy manoeuvering
Not only does a baby carrier take up less space in your closet, it takes up a lot less room on a crowded sidewalk, a store, public transit – you name it! When the idea of pushing your stroller through a busy is enough to bring on an anxiety attack, it might be time to pull out the baby carrier.
6. Baby wearing lets you interact with your baby
I know, I know, we all interact with our babies and toddlers every day. But I just have so many sweet memories of having my daughter in a baby carrier on my back, pointing a leaves, and trees, and flowers and listening to her babble away about them. It’s also a great way to introduce them to animals and not have them yank their fur or tail. Although you may get your hair pulled!
7. Baby wearing is ever so pretty!
Alright, some baby carriers are bigger on the functional than the looks, but there are many out there that blend the two beautifully. And I’m a sucker for those. If you’re going to cover up your (spit-up and food-stained)
clothes with a baby carrier, it might as well be gorgeous and give the illusion that you are well put together,
no? If not that, it should at least look pretty in your closet and get you excited to pull it out and use it whenever you have the chance.
8. Baby wearing is sexy
Any woman who is into babywearing has innevitably tried to get her hubby to try it. What happens when he puts on the flowery sling with the pink hearts? OMG – hearts melt! There is nothing sexier than a man wearing a baby. A little tip though – if you’re hoping to get this to happen on a regular basis, try to find a carrier he likes. You know, in case flowers and hearts aren’t his thing. Just a hunch.
9. Baby wearing is a workout
I’m not gonna lie, those kids can get heavy after a while! Having a good supportive carrier will help you out in that department, but either way, you can plan on building some serious muscle and burning some energy. Don’t believe me? Have a look at The Babywearing Workout.
10. Baby wearing may save your life
Two words people. Zombie apocalypse. You know your emergency preparedness kit? Go stash a baby carrier (or two, or three – count your kids and pack accordingly). You’ll thank me when we meet in the safe zone.
