Simple Living: Save Time & Money with Jojoba Oil

I’m gonna let you in on a lil’ secret…  I really hate having a long, drawn out beauty routine.  Don’t get me wrong, I really love the chance to get all done up, wear pretty makeup, style my hair so I don’t look like a tumbleweed… But on a day-to-day basis, I want it to be e-a-s-y.  So I’ve definitely let this whole simple living thing take over my beauty routine.  Today I want to share my favorite product: jojoba oil.  Not only does it have 3 great everyday uses that save me tons of time, but it saves me a lot of money too!

3 ways to save time and money with jojoba oilJojoba is a funny word that I’m not quite sure I pronounce properly and it does so many amazing things.  Although we call it an oil, it’s really a liquid wax and it very closely matches the consistency of the sebum found in our skin.  Which makes it great for all sorts of uses.

1. I use jojoba oil as a facial moisturizer

Every morning and every night, I put a few drops of jojoba oil in my hands, rub them together and then apply it to my face. There’s no need to use a whole lot – for me, 2-3 drops is the perfect amount, and it sinks into my skin within a few minutes. No greasiness and no strange ingredients either.  I’ve been doing this for about 4 years now and I love it.  I also find that the little bit that gets on my eyelashes helps my mascara go on a little smoother.

2. It’s a great eye makeup remover

Speaking of mascara – jojoba oil makes it super easy to remove!  My eyes are sensitive, so when it’s time to take off my makeup, I stay away from anything scratchy.  I used to use a lotion type of eye makeup remover, but a few years ago swapped it out for jojoba oil and haven’t looked back since.  It dissolves makeup just as well as any product I’ve ever tried and as a bonus, leaves your skin nice and moisturized too.

3. It’s a great for your legs too!

After I shave my legs (which doesn’t happen nearly often enough) they feel all dry and scratchy (as opposed to the stubbly and scratchy they were minutes before).  Since I already have a bottle of jojoba oil in my bathroom, it takes me just a few seconds to squirt out a few drops and quickly rub it into my legs to moisturize and make them feel a bit more comfortable, especially in wintertime. Since it absorbs so quickly and doesn’t feel greasy, I don’t have to worry about waiting to put my clothes on, cause ain’t nobody got time for that!

Although I use jojoba oil for some handmade beauty products I whip up at home (more on those in a future post!), these are my favorite uses.  If you’ve never bought it before, you might be a little shocked at the price for a bottle, like this one over here, which runs about $10 for a bottle.  But it lasts forever! I’ve bought this brand for a few years, and a bottle this size will last me about 6 months, which is a bargain compared to what I used to spend for a facial moisturizer, body moisturizer and eye makeup remover – all of which I needed to re-purchase 4-5 times a year.    If you’re using it for anything else, let me know!  If I can simplify something else in my bathroom cabinet, I’m all over it!

I agree! Jojoba oil is a great moisturizer for the body and the face. I occasionally mix in a couple of drops of my favorite essential oil. I’ve never tried it as a makeup remover, though. Thanks for the tip!

I might have to try mixing a few drops of essential oil in there. It seems I’ve been pregnant or nursing for much of the last 3 years, so I haven’t been using essential oils much, but it will be a project to try for next year!
