Me & My Girls Monday – Happy Thanksgiving!
It’s Thanksgiving today here in Canada, and we’ve been having ourselves a nice quiet weekend along with some low-key celebrations. In true Thanksgiving tradition, pretty much everything I’ve eaten today is conducive to putting me to sleep: turkey, potatoes, pie.. Everything except for the coffee. Although on a day-to-day basis, we eat pretty healthy, there are no holiday cooking rules other than just making whatever it is we feel like. So that’s how you end up with a turkey, mashed potatoes, sugary cranberry sauce that you forget to serve and paleo stuffing that you made because you just really like how it tastes. Speaking of stuffing, as the Acadian was prepping the bird for the oven, I realized how I […]
Liebster Award
Well, well, well – I have an award to add to my virtual mantel! Sort of. Last week, Ana at It’s Been Delicious nominated me for the Liebster Award. It’s not so much an award but more of a fun initiation for bloggers that gives us a chance to tell the world a bit about ourselves and then invent some questions for the next batch of nominees to do the same. There are a few rules we’re supposed to follow… 1. Link back to the person that nominated you. 2. You have to answer the 11 questions given to you by the person that nominated you. 3. You must nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and give them 11 […]
Empanadas with Butternut Squash Recipe
These flaky little pockets of pizza dough filled with creamy ricotta cheese and savory pumpkin or butternut squash puree are an easy fall recipe your family will love. Hi, I’m Sandy. I’m so excited to share this empanada with butternut squash recipe with all of you! Sylvie was nice enough to ask me to guest post today and share one of my favorite easy fall recipes from my own blog, Everyday Southwest. I have “re-vamped” it to make it even faster and easier than the original just in time for the busy months of fall that are coming our way. I mean really… we don’t always have the time to make dough from scratch! So, I know what you are thinking, […]
Me & My Girls Monday – Apple Picking
We eat a LOT of bananas here. Enough that if the monkeys found out, they would start a rally to protect their supply. It’s a big dream of mine to go banana picking one day, but since that likely won’t happen any time soon here in Canada (come on, global warming!) we decided to go apple picking this weekend instead. We really like apples too, so it works out well for us. I’ve actually been wanting to go apple picking for a few years now, but it never seemed like a good idea. I wasn’t even sure it was a good idea this year. Although I could imagine us all having a blast, I could also imagine my oldest daughter […]
Paleo Pumpkin Poop Recipe
Now I know that when I shared my Unicorn Poop Recipe with you and told you it was super tasty, you probably didn’t believe me. But for reals, we gobbled them up so fast, the family was craving more in no time flat, so I had to get to work creating another poop recipe. Since it’s October, that means two things: there are lots of pumpkins all over the place, and Halloween is in everyone’s face. So why fight it – it’s the prime season for making Paleo Pumpkin Poop! The creation of another poop recipe So yes, while everyone out there was busy trying to create pumpkin spice heaven, I was busy in my kitchen, trying to picture a […]
Simple Living: Save Time & Money with Jojoba Oil
I’m gonna let you in on a lil’ secret… I really hate having a long, drawn out beauty routine. Don’t get me wrong, I really love the chance to get all done up, wear pretty makeup, style my hair so I don’t look like a tumbleweed… But on a day-to-day basis, I want it to be e-a-s-y. So I’ve definitely let this whole simple living thing take over my beauty routine. Today I want to share my favorite product: jojoba oil. Not only does it have 3 great everyday uses that save me tons of time, but it saves me a lot of money too! Jojoba is a funny word that I’m not quite sure I pronounce properly and it does so […]
Me & My Girls Monday
When was the last time you took a selfie? Thanks to our phones, most people have a lot more photographs of themselves than we did 10 years ago, but what about pictures with of us *with* our kids? I’m constantly being reminded by my phone that the memory is full – full of pictures of my kids riding rubber donkeys, smooshing food all over their faces and being their cute and mischievous selves. There are quite a few photos of the Acadian getting in on the fun, but not so many that include me. Last week, I came across a super cool feature on a new blog I discovered. Krystyn from Really, Are You Serious does Mommy & Me Monday every […]
Easy Freezer Recipes: French Canadian Baked Beans
My freezer is a magical box. Kinda like those neato food materializer thingees they had on Star Trek that would make any type of food appear on command. Ok, only difference is I had to make the stuff in the freezer myself. But when I wonder what’s for dinner, I open it up, and before me lies a selection of stuff we could eat, ready to go, you know, once you get past the frozen-solid-as-a-rock aspect of it. Nothing a few hours in a slow cooker or an oven can’t fix. There are lots of healthy options, but sometimes, when I’m really lucky, there’s some comfort food for those days when you just need a big hug in your belly. […]
Simple Living: Learn to Use Your Baby Carrier Once and For All
Last week, I gave you 10 reasons I love baby wearing and how it’s been an awesome tool on my quest for simple living. And I really do love baby wearing. Except for those days when it drives me absolutely nuts! Yes, I will be the first to admit that it’s not always flowers and rainbows and lovey dovey baby cuddles. Sometimes there’s spit up, and there’s often some hair pulling, but those usually end up being funny stories once you get cleaned up and your hair grows back. What really sucks though is when you’re having so much trouble that you completely abandon the idea of baby wearing, and that’s where I’m hoping to help. Because there really is […]
