We eat a LOT of bananas here. Enough that if the monkeys found out, they would start a rally to protect their supply. It’s a big dream of mine to go banana picking one day, but since that likely won’t happen any time soon here in Canada (come on, global warming!) we decided to go apple picking this weekend instead. We really like apples too, so it works out well for us.
I’ve actually been wanting to go apple picking for a few years now, but it never seemed like a good idea. I wasn’t even sure it was a good idea this year. Although I could imagine us all having a blast, I could also imagine my oldest daughter tearing up the trees in an apple-induced frenzy. But when all my friends and family were posting fun pictures of their apple picking adventures and insisted that we would be fine, we decided to give it a shot.
We went to Dixie Orchards just north of Brampton, ON and I have to say we did have fun! They have a little petting zoo (ok, it was a few goats and a cow, but you don’t need much more than that!) and we got to ride in a big wagon pulled by a tractor. But the best part was seeing all those beautiful trees filled with apples! My toddler has been always been a big fan of apples so she was completely amazed to see them growing on trees and to be able to pick some to take home. They also had rocks and sticks on the trails leading to the orchards, so I think this is her most favorite place in the whole world now. My wee one has a good time just checking out the scenery from the baby carrier and babbled a little bit with the trees. She may have tried to eat a leaf.
We left with two huge bags of apples and by the time we got to our exit off the highway, both girls were sleeping, so I took the opportunity to run in to the store to buy some ingredients for another poop recipe while the Acadian chilled out in the car with the sleeping beauties. It’s like a fun little timed-shopping challenge when that happens, you know, like they do on game shows where they give contestants a cart and one minute to put as much crap into it as they possibly can. Only I was at Bulk Barn. And I came out with two bags $50 less in my bank account. I guess I didn’t win.
