Are you ready for the big reveal?!!! Ok I’ll just cut to the chase since you’re already here and it’s kind of obvious (and if it’s not, I’ll save us an awkward moment): Cheeriolala got herself a makeover! For the past little while, I’ve been busy working on a new look and a new home for the blog at cheeriolala.com. I had been using it a few years ago and let the domain name expire and lucky for me, no one snatched it up while it was up for grabs in dot-com la-la land. Fools! Fools I tell you!
Believe it or not, I had actually been considering finding a new name. I KNOW! Crazy. I did some fancy brainstorming – basically just me and the Acadian putting a bunch of dumb words together that resulted in me snort laughing and rejecting our best option (Stuff-arama, in case you were wondering) and then plugging in a bunch of dirty words into an automated blog name generator at which point we had to stop because my snorting was going to wake up the kids.
As I was cursing my impulsive name choosing from back in 2009, I thought I would go see what exactly had been running through my head when I came up with Cheeriolala mere moments after my friend Kim at Milkybeer dared me to start a blog. My very first post, very aptly titled I should be going to bed but instead I created a blog cleared that all up for me.
Here is what my wiser, older self has taken from that first post:
Cheeriolala: /,chir-ē-ˈō lä-lä/ Blog name
A personal online journal where the writer believes that Cheerios have magical powers and conducts herself in a manner that prompts those around her to exclaim “oh la la!”.
Well there you go – compleeeetely logical.
So since 2009, a couple of things have changed.
First off, I don’t eat Cheerios anymore. Like ever. I don’t even eat oats or wheat or other oa-tey/wheat-ey things 90% of the time. (But when I do, it involves a lot of Timbits and Starbucks chocolate chunk cookies.) And I don’t think they’re magical anymore either. Bummer, I know.
Secondly, no one ever, ever gives me weird looks anymore or thinks anything I do is a bit out of the norm. Alrighty. That was a big sarcastic lie. That part of my life has definitely not changed. I do get a lot of weird looks, like when I tell the teenage clerk at the jean shop that I need some post-partum short-shorts, or when I cruise around the grocery store with a baby tied to my back and a toddler yelling “FUCK IT!!!” at the top of her lungs in the cart (I SWEAR, she’s trying to say rice-cake, give the two-year old with the french accent a break!).
So after my thorough analysis, I decided I still liked Cheeriolala, and maybe if I spruced her up and gave her a little makeover, the magic might come back. I KNOW! Magic without cheerios – only I would be crazy enough to believe it.
And I also thought it was high time to update my tagline too. What I wanted to say was “a blog about a crazy girl who does crunchy, sometimes woo-woo, dream-chasing kind of stuff while refusing to give up her fashion sensibilities and her sense of reality but still very much enjoys sticking her head in the clouds, or the sand, depending on the weather“. That was a little bit wordy though. So I went with “A practical guide to living in la-la land” instead. I really like it. And I hope you do too!
To go along with my blog’s new look, I am also getting a haircut this week. It’s ok if you don’t notice that though. But hopefully the Acadian does! This post may contain affiliate links.
