Long before I started writing about simple living, I had stolen a few moments while my daughter was napping to gather my thoughts about her homebirth and introduce her to my readers. She was about 8 months old at the time and didn’t sleep long enough for me to finish. So here we are, a year-and-a-half later, and I’ve finally had the chance to finish writing up the birth story of this little person who has been in my heart so much longer than I’ve been able to hold her in my arms. A little under two and a half years ago, I was a very discouraged girl. With a huge belly, the baby room all set up and […]
Me & My Girls Monday – Happy Thanksgiving!
It’s Thanksgiving today here in Canada, and we’ve been having ourselves a nice quiet weekend along with some low-key celebrations. In true Thanksgiving tradition, pretty much everything I’ve eaten today is conducive to putting me to sleep: turkey, potatoes, pie.. Everything except for the coffee. Although on a day-to-day basis, we eat pretty healthy, there are no holiday cooking rules other than just making whatever it is we feel like. So that’s how you end up with a turkey, mashed potatoes, sugary cranberry sauce that you forget to serve and paleo stuffing that you made because you just really like how it tastes. Speaking of stuffing, as the Acadian was prepping the bird for the oven, I realized how I […]
Liebster Award
Well, well, well – I have an award to add to my virtual mantel! Sort of. Last week, Ana at It’s Been Delicious nominated me for the Liebster Award. It’s not so much an award but more of a fun initiation for bloggers that gives us a chance to tell the world a bit about ourselves and then invent some questions for the next batch of nominees to do the same. There are a few rules we’re supposed to follow… 1. Link back to the person that nominated you. 2. You have to answer the 11 questions given to you by the person that nominated you. 3. You must nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and give them 11 […]
Me & My Girls Monday – Apple Picking
We eat a LOT of bananas here. Enough that if the monkeys found out, they would start a rally to protect their supply. It’s a big dream of mine to go banana picking one day, but since that likely won’t happen any time soon here in Canada (come on, global warming!) we decided to go apple picking this weekend instead. We really like apples too, so it works out well for us. I’ve actually been wanting to go apple picking for a few years now, but it never seemed like a good idea. I wasn’t even sure it was a good idea this year. Although I could imagine us all having a blast, I could also imagine my oldest daughter […]
Me & My Girls Monday
When was the last time you took a selfie? Thanks to our phones, most people have a lot more photographs of themselves than we did 10 years ago, but what about pictures with of us *with* our kids? I’m constantly being reminded by my phone that the memory is full – full of pictures of my kids riding rubber donkeys, smooshing food all over their faces and being their cute and mischievous selves. There are quite a few photos of the Acadian getting in on the fun, but not so many that include me. Last week, I came across a super cool feature on a new blog I discovered. Krystyn from Really, Are You Serious does Mommy & Me Monday every […]
Be fit but be kind to yourself
Since we’ve moved out to the burbs last year, I’ve spent a lot of time exploring all the great trails in our area, but I had yet to go for a run. With the crazy heat wave we’d been experiencing finally behind us, I thought I would get my first run in over two years under my belt this morning. After lacing up my shoes, grabbing my iPhone and doing a quick bounce test to make sure my sports bra was still functional (it was – yay!), I hurried up and left before I had a chance to change my mind about it. After a minute or two of walking, I picked up the pace to a jog and was […]
Cheeriolala has a brand new look
Are you ready for the big reveal?!!! Ok I’ll just cut to the chase since you’re already here and it’s kind of obvious (and if it’s not, I’ll save us an awkward moment): Cheeriolala got herself a makeover! For the past little while, I’ve been busy working on a new look and a new home for the blog at cheeriolala.com. I had been using it a few years ago and let the domain name expire and lucky for me, no one snatched it up while it was up for grabs in dot-com la-la land. Fools! Fools I tell you! Believe it or not, I had actually been considering finding a new name. I KNOW! Crazy. I did some fancy brainstorming […]
Flies, squirrels and baby girls
My house is as quiet as can be. Everyone is in bed, and all I hear around me are the crazy amount of flies that managed to find their way into our house, which is a nice reminder of all the wonderful weather and outdoor fun that we’ve been having this summer. Yeah, they are slightly annoying too. I do realize it’s been ages since I’ve written, so I’ll get everyone up to speed on what has been happening in my life. Our sweet baby girl. Photo by Four Bees Photography. In March of this year, another little lady joined our family to further outnumber the Acadian in the male/female ratio of our household. He’s loving it though, as am […]
Yes, I really do think I’m pretty
Why is it that it makes me a little nervous to say that I’m happy with how I look? This past year, it seems I’ve seen a lot things on the topic of developing positive body image, and I think it’s a wonderful thing. It’s gotten me thinking a lot about how I feel about myself. Over the years, I’ve been through a few changes – puberty, weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, giving birth. To me, they are big events in my existence, as they are for many others – things that have changed my perspective on how I live my life and feel about myself. And at this very moment in time, I’m very happy with how my body […]
I wrote that?
It’s been a while since I’ve written. Anything really. Other than scribbled to-do and grocery lists, I’ve barely even updated my Facebook status, much less written a blog post. I’m not sure if it’s the first breeze of fall air that is quietly blowing in to our bedroom window at night or the leaves on that one tree behind our house that are insisting on changing colour before all the others, but I feel change coming on. And what a lovely, wonderful and exciting feeling that is. With so many thoughts swirling through my head, I thought it might be good to go fish out a notebook. A real notebook, and not the kind stuck to my fridge with a […]
